
Welcome to our new research programme, the Working Group on Transatlantic Relations!
This Working Group focuses on analysing the UK-US relationship, particularly in light of the new UK Government following the General Election 2024 and the US Presidential election 2024. It examines and analyses the Presidential Administration’s agenda, Congressional plans and developments, and federal and state policies.
Our Working Group Members hold a fixed research and writing position, bringing their their knowledge, expertise, and insight to the Working Group and Agora as a whole.

Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Working Group on Transatlantic Relations, your main task will be to conduct research and produce written content which falls within the scope of the Working Group’s programme of work, including within your desired subtopics.
Desired skills and requirements
- An early-career researcher, with a passion for foreign policy;
- An interest in research and policy, particularly within the context of transatlantic relations, the UK’s foreign policy objectives / relationship with the USA, and the USA’s foreign policy objectives / relationship with the UK;
- Experience in undertaking research, with experience within a team structure is desirable;
- Ability to commit 3-4 hours per week on a voluntary basis, and to remain committed to the Working Group for the 2024-2025 academic term.
Candidate Criteria
- Good Technical Knowledge and Understanding: You possess a good understanding of the subject matter falling within the scope of the Working Group’s programme of work;
- Research Experience: You have experience in undertaking and producing analytical research;
- Management Skills: You have good management skills;
- Teamwork Skills: You possess good teamwork skills and are able to work effectively within a team;
- Time Management: You are able to manage time and tasks appropriately, including in the overseeing of writing projects, and in preparing for and attending necessary internal meetings;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: You are able to communicate effectively, and can engage professionally with Agora officers, members, and external parties such as writers and stakeholders; and
- Knowledge of Agora and Open Think Tank Network: Familiarity with Agora's mission, operations, and the broader landscape of think tanks, including the Open Think Tank Network.
This voluntary role is largely carried out on a remote basis, however we do require members to be available to attend scheduled meetings and planning calls which will be scheduled in the Western European Time / GMT timezone.
